Remember to Take Time Off

For Those Self Employed - Remember to Take Time Off

I was sitting at my desk last week and my much better half walked in my office and said "Hey Darling that I love and adore so much because you have zero personality faults and are so devastatingly handsome, remember to block out the 4th of July and the day before". Realistically she probably used the word 'dumbass' instead of 'darling' but you get the point. She totally said all that other stuff though. I swear.

When I used to work for others, I never forgot a holiday, a vacation day or any other chance to spend time away from the office.

Now, I'm so consumed with always saying "yes" to my clients, with meeting the monthly income requirements to sustain this company, that I schedule work relentlessly with little regard to taking any time for myself. I have caught myself so many times with work scheduled on days/holidays that I should be taking for myself and my family. So, I made a promise to myself to remember to work to live, not the other way around. I made a promise to myself to take more time and enjoy my family, my hobbies and just relaxing. It is too easy as a business owner to just go, go, go. You never say no. You always put others and clients before yourself. And it always happens, you burn out. You take a vacation but since you are the owner, you still must check in for at least an hour or so a day. You never really "leave". We simply forget and/or neglect to take the time for ourselves that we used to.

So, going forward from this upcoming 4th of July, a time to celebrate our great nation, I'm going to remember to take more time off. To go have too many beers, to go burn my fingertips setting off fireworks in our driveway, to go BBQ ribs and of course not to forget to also make vegan burgers for that one person who knows who they are if they read this. I'm going to take time for myself and my family. I hope you can do the same.

Blocking out time and saying no to others means saying yes to yourself. It's easy to forget this. Have a happy every day.
